Review- Wet N Wild Mega Eyes Liquid Liner Pen

I am always looking for the perfect black liquid liner. Recently, I started purchasing pen or felt-tip style liners instead of brush-type liquid liners. I learned how to use liquid liner on brushes, I thought the formulas with brushes seemed to have truer darker blacks (I still do) and they created a thicker line. I like a thicker line if I’m skipping eyeshadow (I know, Blasphemy!)

I started taking a medication  that is necessary, but has the side effect that it makes me twitch. Not anything major and not all the time but enough that when I am putting on liquid eyeliner, I notice it. A poorly-timed twitch while putting on makeup can really mess me up and it costs me time as well.

My most recent purchase on my eyeliner quest is Wet N Wild MegaEyes Liquid Eyeliner Pen. I used to associate Wet N Wild with the cheapest makeup in the drugstore and the quality was always  pretty much  what I expected for the price. Recently they have stepped up their game, offering a line of “natural” makeup in recycle-able packaging and palettes named after the seven deadly sins with colors that are supposedly dupes of mac both in color match and quality. Shocking, no? I don’t have the palettes yet so I cannot back that up, however some of my fave beauty blogs have reviewed and compared side-by-side to mac and I see purchasing them in my near future.

Anyhow, that was a bit of a ramble, I tend to do that, let’s get back on track! So, Mega Eyes…Not bad, Wet N Wild, not bad at all. One of the good things about it is that it seems to glide easily, it feels like there’s a lot of product in there and you don’t have to shake the pen to coax and cajole the product out in a reasonable amount. The tip is soft but not so soft that when you press down on it you get a big blob of liner. It’s easy to control the thickness of the line and it’s possible to get a very thin line with this pen. The liner dries quickly and does not flake or smudge.

Now, the faults. There isn’t anything majorly wrong with it. You will need to probably go over the first line to make it darker. Also, this formula isn’t great with oily lids. If you suffer from oily eyelids you will need to use a primer that will create a nice matte canvas for the liner to adhere to or else it will travel. My lids are oily by the end of the day but I found that using a primer underneath kept the liner in place, looking good until I wanted to remove it. Honestly though, for $3  I don’t mind having to apply primer first besides I do that almost daily anyhow!

Here is a swatch. I drew the line and then went over it with a second swipe.

Not bad, right? For $3 it’s not a bad everyday liner.

Life Snippit

I have a job interview Monday morning. This is a really good thing since I’ve been out of work for a long time now.

Unfortunately it is in the mall and probably won’t pay very much. But- it’s in a tea shop that I love, and I get to drink and learn more about some amazing and healthy brews.

Now, the  bad- The shop is next to Sephora. “But, you love makeup!” you protest. Yes, I do, too much, in fact. I will have to force myself with every bit of strength in my body to walk in the opposite direction with my check clenched in white-knuckled hands on pay day!  At least when I fail you all will be treated to new reviews. (You being my imaginary readers of course  because I don’t have any yet!)

Article- Tips for Choosing Makeup to go with Funky Coloured Hair

Help, My hair is green and now my favorite red lipstick makes me look like a Christmas decoration!

Okay, after having my hair just about every colour possible, both natural and very un-natural I have learned that not all makeup colours really work with all colours of hair. Maybe this doesn’t bother everyone, but I was a bit peeved and confused about whether I should even bother with bright colors at all after I first noticed this problem while my hair was purple. Here are a few tips I picked up along my hair-coloring journey.

The first is that if you have purple hair, a purple lip colour that matches the tones in your hair with look killer. Try a Black gloss over it sometime too! Try to match the tones in your haircolor. If your hair is fucshia, both pink or purple will look nice. This is also true for red hair. Red lips and red hair look great too.If your hair is burgundy, try a red that leans purple. If your hair is fire-engine red try a blue-based red for your lips to counteract any orange tones in the hair, in this case you don’t want to match the tones in your hair because all that orange can be unflattering.

Two-Blues and Greens look great with Nude, Coral, or Pink lips. If you are more daring, try a blue or green lip to match your hair like the above suggestions as well! If you are going to use a color like this on your lip you want a formula that is opaque and hydrating, so that the color does not highlight every flaw you have in your lips. Try Morgana Mineral’s Vegan Lipsticks. She has all sorts of fun colors to try!

Three- Black hair and black lipstick may be too much depending on what you’re going for. Then again it may be just right for you. I always though it just made me look like I was trying too hard, personally I couldn’t pull it off. The good news is, with black hair pretty much ANY other colors for your eyes and lips look fantastic, so go play!

Four- If you feel that the brightbrightbright ( or black)  colour you picked for your hair washes out your face try a bronzer. If you are someone who loves their pale skin there are bronzers out there even for someone like you. I used to be like that and I started slowly. Smashbox makes some blush/bronzer quads that have a white color in them as well as really subdued colors that you can use alone or swipe together to add a little touch of colour that doesn’t look ridiculous on super-pale skin. There are probably other similar products out there, for a drugstore alternative try Physician’s formula! Check them out at your local drugstore and look for something that will add some colour to your face but is very light-toned.

Five- Stylized eyeliner always looks great in combination with funky-dyed hair. Picture green tresses, pale peach lips and A cat eye! Or Marilyn Monroe styled eye makeup. Play around with a nice dark liquid eyeliner.

Six- Try a crazy bright matte eyeshadow matching your haircolour and pair it with a glitter eyeliner. Try Too Faced Starry-Eyed or Nyx Glitter eyeliner. Too Faced glitter eyeliner is one of the best, IMO, because you don’t have to layer it like crazy to get a thick glittery line. They have black with silver glitter, black w/gold glitter, two kinds of pink one hot and one paler, and at least one bright blue. I’ve never tried NYX but they aren’t pricey and I’ve heard good things. I’ll review once I have a chance to snag some myself!

Seven- Try coloring your brows to match your hair- Temporarily, that is! Brunettes & Blondes do it, so why not Blue and Purple haired gals? Try wetting a slanted eyebrow brush and dipping it in a matte or sparkly colour that matches your haircolor. Lightly brush it in the beginning of your eybrow and then draw a strong line of it from the arch to the end of the brow. It doesn’t have to match either, try any color that looks good with your hair and complexion.Try this even if your hair is black- why not put a little blue in your brows?

Eight- Experiment! Having brightly coloured hair is a fun thing  so enjoy it and enjoy finding makeup looks to go with it!

Fyrinnae mail!!

I am super excited. I just got my second order from Fyrinnae. After my first order arrived and I had a chance to play with my stuff a bit, I was so hooked that I placed my second (much larger) order less then 42 hours later!

Now it’s here and I cannot wait to start swatching and playing!  Last time I ordered 3 full-size eyecolors, two minis, pixie epoxy and a lip lustre in acidic cherry. This time I ordered all minis because there were so many colors I just had to try. I also got a blush, highlighter and bronzer for contouring. I also got a lip lustre in Ryo-Pinko. I already LOVE it! They included a free sample eyeshadow, and an itty-bitty pot of Pixie Epoxy! Since I already have the Pixie Epoxy I will probably feature a giveaway at some point on here. I will be posting reviews of their eyeshadow, the pixie epoxy & lip lustres all separately in the not-too-distant future. Why separately you ask?  I personally have a hard time keeping track of what’s what when people put 30 different things in one review and include all of the swatches all down their arm in one go. Besides, I do not have an unlimited budget so this way I can keep the posts coming, and you wont have to wait to read a review as long as it takes me to make another makeup purchase!

Now, I did take a few pics of everything after I opened it and laid it all out. I took another pic of three of the sparkliest shades in the bunch together because they just look so PRETTY! These pics are not intended to be like swatches or accurate photos of the colors, I just took them because I was excited and also want to show you some of the stuff I’ll be reviewing soon.

The whole shebang

LtR shades are Bastet, Fyre&Ice, Jaguar

First post!

Hello there!

This is my first post on here. Yes, this is yet another beauty blog and we all know the web is saturated with them.

I remember thinking when I first came across Beauty Blogs I immediately thought “I could do this!” “I WANT to do this!!” But then I read on, found many well-written blogs focusing on beauty that reviewed so many products I began wondering how I could possibly add anything to all this and “Maybe I should leave well enough alone.” So I gave up on the idea and just read my faves everyday and lusted after products as usual, spent any of my spare money at Sephora and Indie Mineral companies.

Recently I made my first ever beauty-related post on facebook, gushing about how an order of makeup arrived and didn’t expect any comments. I didn’t end up with 50 comments or anything, I had just one. My friend was as excited as I was and wanted me to swatch my order for her. She was really psyched and wanted to place an order too because we really do like the same stuff. That made me happy because I introduced her to a good mineral company that is NOT a re-packager, which gets them business, and she was excited to get new makeup and have something new to play with.

That’s when the beauty blog idea starting tickling my brain again. I figured maybe I should do it, If it’s something I want so badly. If even a few people read it and it helps them in any way, say, by reading a review that could save them money, by helping my favorite businesses by gaining them even just a couple new customers, and by helping people who have similar style to mine find a beauty blog that is directed towards them. That can’t be bad, right?

By similar style, I mean people who are creative with their looks. People who like to express themselves through their clothing, hair and makeup. People who think facial piercings are hot and who can appreciate the Rocker-chic aesthetic. Or the rockabilly, punk, goth, hipster, geek, metal, glam, cyber, & so on &  on….

I may not be the best writer in the world but I will strive to make my posts as easy to read as possible with proper grammar and whatnot.  I will try not to make you wince while perusing my ramblings, at least not at my spelling skillz. Just try to bear with me when I don’t get it right.

My loose plans for this thing are to write articles, reviews which will cover high-end products, drug-store, mineral/indie, and will denote when products are bright or dramatic enough to work in a goth or “extreme” look. I don’t want this blog to only appeal to one kind of person. I want anyone with a passion for alternative fashion and makeup to enjoy this blog.

Please enjoy, and pass it on to anyone else whom you think might enjoy it, then you can all leave me comments and give me some feedback as to the direction of my blog, recommend things to review and let me know if  I’m butchering the english language.
