Shopping Venemous Villains, Swatches, Thoughts

I had the opportunity to attend a launch party at MAC for the Venemous Villains collection. This is the collection inspired by Disney Villains and grouped in four mini-collections for each character.  The Villains they chose are Cruella De Vil, Dr. Facilier, The Evil Queen and Maleficent. I love the idea of this collection because it’s fun, it’s a little different and I think it’s well suited to anyone who loves a good dose of drama and darkness!

Now, I have a confession to make. I am actually pretty  new to all things MAC. I used to think they were too expensive but I’ve done a lot of experimenting with makeup and I have come to believe that you get what you pay for and I’d rather go for quality over quantity in building my makeup collection. Plus, they aren’t nearly as expensive as many other popular makeup companies. Their lipsticks average only $5 more than Drugstore lipsticks! Would you rather pay $9 for a lipstick that you can’t even open to look at, that may have a funky scent/taste  or that doesn’t last long on your lips or pay $14.50 for guaranteed quality, something you can swatch and try on in-store and that you know will be worth it?    /endrant.

I spent some time looking over swatches of this collection on Temptalia and Spektra and had pretty much made up my mind on my most-wanted items which turned out to be a good thing because the night of the event the place was mobbed and I wasn’t able to get my paws on the actual pieces. The MAC at Lakeside mall is a very small place- probably the size of our living room! Even though it was invite-only it was too crowded. They had a small area just outside the door roped off with people posing for pictures in front of giant cutouts of the characters and trying on costume pieces after having their makeup done. Inside they were circulating cupcakes, finger foods and champagne. My boyfriend ( who was dragged along last-minute b/c my friend had to work)  informed me the cupcakes were extremely yummy. They handed you a list at the door with the collection on it and you could mark down which items you wanted and hand it to the sales gals. I ended up doing that quite shortly after getting there, paying for my stuff and heading out as small, crowded spots are not something I enjoy!  I picked up Hot House lipglass ( which I’ve wanted for awhile!) French Quarter greasepaint stick and Vainglorious Eyeshadow. Thanks to the online swatches I knew what I was getting but unfortunately I ended up with one little disppointment anyhow. Vainglorious e/s looks amazing in the pot but loses it’s color and finish when swatched.

This is the swatch to show you Vainglorious. They are left to right- Hot House, French Quarter Greasepaint stick and Vainglorious Eye Shadow, all outside in sunlight just to show the color best but not the finish. Vainglorious came out looking terrible in these swatches and more brown than burgundy however it doesn’t look as nice when swatched as it does in the pan. It’s looks quite different to me and not nearly as pretty as I thought it would be :/

LtoR- Hot House Lipglass, French Quarter Greasepaint Stick &Vainglorious Eyeshadow. Now, this shows how gorgeous Hot House and French Quarter really look! Aren’t they amazing?  I have never used either product in any color before so I was curious and now impressed. The lipglass is sparkly, it’s a nice color that offers the coverage of a lipstick  but can be put on lightly for a flattering, Shimmery Raspberry color. It really sticks to lips so I think it would stay on for awhile. The Greasepaint stick would work as a liner, a smoky eye, a cut crease or a base for other shadows. Vainglorious will be good for a smoky eye too, I think. I plan to try it over primer and hope that helps. Even though it’s a little disappointing it’s still unlike any shadow I own so I will find a use for it.

The collection will be available at MAC starting Thursday, Sept. 30th.  I recommend checking it out. If you do, please  tell me what you got or what caught your eye!

Swatches and thoughts-Morgana Minerals

I received my first order from Morgana Minerals today!! I didn’t take pics of everything yet, but I got some of her vegan lipstick samples, hair dye, stackable mini jars, white stage makeup and two foundation samples. The reason I jumped on here immediately after my order came was not because of any of that, it was the eyeshadow. Specifically one particular color.

Oh. My. Goodness.

I am not stranger to the awesomeness that is mineral eyeshadow. I have about 20 Fyrinnae eyeshadows and exactly 20 samples from High Voltage. I love them all.  I guess I’m like a polygamous husband in that way. So let me introduce you to my newest love!

Please ignore my nasty scarred hands, I couldn’t crop the picture. I’m going to install some decent picture editing software soon, i promise!

Burgundy Rose!  I could write poetry about this color, I love it that much. It’s a beautiful shimmery burgundy with some brown. The picture makes it look very brown but it’s actually more purple. The pic below shows it more true to color.

Here are all four eyeshadow samples I got.

L Tto R the colors are-Warped,Burgundy Rose,Twinkling Cherrine,Marooned

Warped and Burgundy Rose are very shimmery, Twinkling Cherrine has sparkles but is almost like a matte with glitter particles, and Marooned is just like Twinkling Cherrine in the sparkle department.

My only problem so far with these is that two of the samples were generous and two seemed small. I put one of the larger samples in a jar next to the smaller one and the difference is very noticeable. I’m pretty sure one is a freebie but it’s not labeled as a free sample. I guess I’m spoiled because Fyrinnae labels theirs “Free Sample” right on the jar. Also, if only one is a free sample then why are two of them so small? Maybe she was just extra generous with two of them and the smaller ones are the normal sample size? Oh well, enough speculating I just figured it was worth mentioning.

Her prices are very reasonable. She sells Jerome Russel Punky Colours hair dye for 6.00 per jar. Lipstick Samples are $.50 & full sizes are 10.00. They are vegan formulations!! I’ll pay extra to know something isn’t tested on animals and to get something totally vegan is even better. It’s tough to find lip products with no animal products anyway. She offers an amazing range of colors too. I haven’t had a chance to wear them yet but when I do, I’ll share my thoughts! She has multiple size choices for eye colors, samples are $1, 5gr jars are $5, there are also larger jars and refill bags. She offers mineral primers, foundations and veils (even shades for us ghostly complected gals)  glitter eyeliner pencils, and other neat stuff that you’ll just have to check it out yourself!!

I placed my order on April 16th. It arrived today, May 03.  Shipping times were stated on the site when I placed my order.

I can’t say for sure I recommend the company yet as I haven’t worn any of the products but I like what I see so far and I only ordered after reading many positive reviews myself. It’s worth checking out and I advise you to always order samples of some things that look appealing on these mineral companies sites before shelling out full-price for anything. That’s what I’ve been doing and now I have a lot of stuff to play with, without having spent a fortune and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by more than one thing I’ve received.

Fyrinnae mail!!

I am super excited. I just got my second order from Fyrinnae. After my first order arrived and I had a chance to play with my stuff a bit, I was so hooked that I placed my second (much larger) order less then 42 hours later!

Now it’s here and I cannot wait to start swatching and playing!  Last time I ordered 3 full-size eyecolors, two minis, pixie epoxy and a lip lustre in acidic cherry. This time I ordered all minis because there were so many colors I just had to try. I also got a blush, highlighter and bronzer for contouring. I also got a lip lustre in Ryo-Pinko. I already LOVE it! They included a free sample eyeshadow, and an itty-bitty pot of Pixie Epoxy! Since I already have the Pixie Epoxy I will probably feature a giveaway at some point on here. I will be posting reviews of their eyeshadow, the pixie epoxy & lip lustres all separately in the not-too-distant future. Why separately you ask?  I personally have a hard time keeping track of what’s what when people put 30 different things in one review and include all of the swatches all down their arm in one go. Besides, I do not have an unlimited budget so this way I can keep the posts coming, and you wont have to wait to read a review as long as it takes me to make another makeup purchase!

Now, I did take a few pics of everything after I opened it and laid it all out. I took another pic of three of the sparkliest shades in the bunch together because they just look so PRETTY! These pics are not intended to be like swatches or accurate photos of the colors, I just took them because I was excited and also want to show you some of the stuff I’ll be reviewing soon.

The whole shebang

LtR shades are Bastet, Fyre&Ice, Jaguar
